Univision Deportes acquires multi-platform media rights for the soccer team Chivas de Guadalajara

Univision Deportes announced that it will be the new home in the U.S. for one of the most popular soccer teams in the nation and in Mexico, Chivas de Guadalajara. The deal is set to be effective as of July 2013, and includes all languages and platforms. “This deal reinforces Univision’s commitment to provide the best and most relevant programming to Hispanic audiences” said Cesar Conde, president of Univision Networks. “We are pleased to continue to deliver the culturally relevant content our audience seeks, while creating opportunities for our partners to connect with the fastest growing consumer segment in the nation”.Terms of the deal grant Univision Deportes the rights to all of Chivas’ Liga MX, Copa Mexico and worldwide alliances for all platforms.“We are excited to partner and unite Chivas, the most powerful brand in soccer with Univision, the most powerful brand in U.S. Hispanic media” said Angelica Fuentes, chief executive, Grupo Omnilife and Jorge Vergara, board president, Grupo Omnilife.Aside from Chivas, Univision has U.S. media rights to the home games of Toluca, Pumas de la UNAM, Monterrey, Tigres de la UANL, América, Pachuca, Tijuana, Santos, San Luis, Queretaro, Atlas and Atlante, as well as away games for the rest of the league’s teams.
