Fernández: Me gustaría trabajar con cualquier clie
Leonel Fernández is a Mexican director who started his career as graphic designer of great Mexican magazines. For more than eight years he worked as creative director in advertising agencies in Mexico City and New York. His job as a creative was awarded on many occasions, but one day he decided to improve his abilities as a creative director in the Film School of NYU and in 2003 started his career as a director. In 2015 he joined the team of directors of The Film House Group. His sense of composition which stems from graphic arts is present in the impeccable visual style that he has developed. Fernández works with commercials, videoclips, documentaries for TV and film, where he debuted in 2012 was with his short film La Medida Exacta, chosen to take part in multiple festivals. To date he has made more than 100 commercials for big clients such as Unilever, P&G, KFC, Burger King, General Motors, Mitsubishi Motors and MTV. He confesses that he loves to be able to make a living doing what he likes best, which is telling stories. When talking about his personal style and the brand he leaves in his pieces, he explained that he always tries to understand the main goal of the idea and on that he builds the best way to tell the story. “I think that the personal brand is inherent to the treatment you propose as a director. I would never think of imposing a personal style to the main goal of the story”, he said.Fernández feels comfortable with any genre, as long as it manages to tell and transmit a story, regardless of the media it is aimed for. In advertising, he devotes projects to the agency and the client who hired him, since his responsibility is with them. “I would like to work with any client who feels identified with my work, I don´t care if he is big or small. For me, the moment when someone talks to you about a project is important because they have seen in your work something they think is going to contribute to your brand”, added the director.All the projects in which he has been involved have marked him one way or another, “I have always learned something new, at a technical, human or professional level”, he commented. “If I had to choose one, it would be the one I think of as my first child, it is the first the first short film I made barely 4 years ago, called La Medida Exacta and was a project that changed my life. I am extremely proud of the result.His most recent works are: commercials for Martell Caractere with Aspen in Chicago, a campaign made up of five stories for Steren Electronics in México and some spots for General Motors, also in Mexico.His inspiration comes from life itself. I feel very lucky to be alive and to be able to do what I like best for a living”. He admires so many directors that it would be difficult to choose only one, but the list ranges from classic directors such as Bergman, Buñuel, Godard, and Antonioni, up to Cuarón and Iñarritu, fellow countrymen of the director.He believes an essential film for Mexican and Latin American cinema is Amores Perros by Iñarritu. I think that at its time it was a watershed for all the subsequent generations of Latin American and Spanish-speaking film makers around the world”.For this year he expects to start great projects together with the family at The Film House Group.Productora:The Film House Group, USAContact: {Marlo Baker;marlo@thefilmhousegroup.com} T +1-305-441-2258{Watch video;http://www.produ.com/publicidad/videos/index.html?Noti=9502}
