The actor Andrés Parra and Angélica Guerra from SPT spoke about the interpretation of El Comandante
The Colombian actor Andrés Parra, who will play the role of Hugo Chávez in the series El Comandante (60×60´), produced by Sony Pictures Television Latinoamérica, explained in an exclusive interview with PRODU that the biggest difficulty he encountered was Chávez’s voice.
“Chávez voice is very difficult. For the first time I had to hire a voice trainer. I thought I was going to be able to do it alone, just using my ear, but I couldn’t.”
Angélica Guerra, senior VP and general director of International Production for Latin America and Hispanic US at Sony Pictures Television (SPT), added that “Andrés is a perfectionist”, and feels that he achieved all the nuances in his performance.“Sometimes, just with his gaze, without a single word, he manages to convey who the character is”.
Parra commented that he saw some 400 hours of videos of Chávez, from 8am until 5pm. “I devoted a year and a half to study the character, during which I decided not to accept any other proposal. I locked myself in to study”.
For his part, the executive commented one of the phrases that Parra told her, which stroke her the most, was : “Chávez is one of the most amazing actors I have seen. He is an actor with a thousand sides, capable of turning into a baseball player, beauty contest host and leader of an entire country”.
