FiReSPORTS: Esports require training, which is why we’re launching a degree

Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes: Esports are not a spaceship flying around aimlessly, it's as big and lucrative as the traditional entertainment industry we know

Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes, CEO of FiReSPORTS, told PRODU after one of the Counter-Strike finals held by FiReSPORTS at Camp Nou, that brands or producers often fail to understand the esports industry fully. “Esports are not a spaceship flying around aimlessly. In this industry, there are content creators, social media managers, event organizers, people selling stadium tickets, and television broadcasts with 12 cameras; it’s as big and lucrative as the traditional entertainment industry we know.”

“Even though it’s just kids playing video games, the entertainment logic remains the same, except instead of going to a traditional TV channel, it’s on Twitch or YouTube. There are journalists, teams have psychologists and nutritionists; there’s an entire industry behind it, which aligns with the degree program we’re launching because esports require education and professionalization. For the first edition of this degree program, we already have 80 enrolled students,” he said.

The degree is offered at UADE and trains professionals to work in various aspects of the esports industry: team management, event organization, audiovisual production, marketing, and business management, among others.

He also mentioned the launch of Barça Games alongside Marcos Santana and Mas Ros Media. “This esports platform is still in development. It has been announced that Marcelo Liberini will lead the project, which will be launched as a beta version by the end of April. It will be available to the general public in early July.”
