GolTV: We want to increase our distribution and add new leagues

Marcela Tedesco| 19 de marzo de 2011

Jorge Villazán of GolTV says the growth of the channel is due to the fact it is the only signal devoted entirely to soccer and not other sports.“We have a very specific niche and, since it is managed mostly by ex soccer players and the owner is someone with experience in the trading of players, it makes us know our product deeply and allows us to offer a high-quality channel. But although it is a channel dedicated solely to soccer, we are not only focused on men but also the entire family: we have shows catering to young people and aimed at the development of children and their interest for the sport, mostly in the U.S. Hispanic feed,” said Villazán.The executive listed some of the goals for 2011: distribution growth, and the addition of more leagues and regional championships to the grid. Once this is achieved, the next step would be to find new markets such as China, and to launch the channel in high definition. When asked about the most successful segments, Villazán said that the German League, is doing well in Venezuela because there are two Venezuelan players in that league, as is the case of Peru. Italian soccer is very popular in Chile because there are also players from that country, and the same goes for Argentinean and Uruguayans. “We aim at continuing to grow, adding more leagues, and producing shows that are relevant to viewers in countries like Mexico, Colombia and Argentina,” he added.
