In the context of the Guadalajara International Film Festival, the Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía (Imcine) presented its yearbook with figures of the production of cinema in Mexico, and for the first time, added a TV section. There, they highlight that in 2017, 176 films were produced and 52 international co-productions were shot with 27 countries, which represents 30% of the total production.

The presentation was under the responsibility of representatives of Imcine, Canacine, the Academia Mexicana de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas (Amacc), which revealed that the economic behavior of cinema in 2016 was five times more dynamic than the group of the Mexican economy.

“Mexico is among the 20 countries with the largest production in the world, and between the 5 first in Latin America. Mexican films won 103 awards at international festivals. We are at our second golden age,” commented Tábata Vilar, director of the Cámara Nacional de la Industria Cinematográfica (Canacine).

Hazlo Como Hombre by Nicolás López was the Mexican film with the greatest audience in movie theaters during 2017. It had more than 4.3 million viewers, out of the 22.4 million who saw national films.

Digital platforms represented an alternate form of cinematographic production. In 2017, 16 platforms operated in the country, among which FilminLatino, Cinema México digital, Retina Latina and Pantalla CACI stand out.

FilminLatino, an Imcine platform, offered 16 thousand titles, with more than 63 thousand registered users and around a million and a half visits throughout the year.
