Sony Channel will premiere its new original production, Enloqueciendo Contigo, the Mexican version of the American series Mad About You, on Sunday, the 19th, at 11PM. Cast and crew gathered to watch the first two episodes before the premiere. Ramón García, Senior vice president and General Manager of Distribution, and Carlos Quintanilla, vice president of Original Content at Sony Pictures Entertainment Latin America, discussed the production process and the importance of continuing to invest in original content for the network.

“This is a modern, universal Mexican story that seeks to connect with audiences through realistic romantic comedy,” said Quintanilla, adding that the series blends scenes shot on sets and locations, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the everyday life of a newlywed couple and their small yet significant challenges: “We’ve focused on ensuring that our productions are of high quality so they can reach as many viewers as possible.”

A RETURN TO SITUATIONAL COMEDY

García highlighted the production’s importance within the channel’s regional strategy: “Twenty years ago, Sony started producing adaptations of sitcoms in Latin America. This format has been part of the studio’s DNA from the beginning, allowing us to create important and successful adaptations. Enloqueciendo Contigo continues that tradition with a fresh approach, adapted to the current market demands.”

He added that, as market needs shifted, the company moved toward other genres; however, “we kept experimenting with different formats, but now we’re returning to something we love as a studio—bringing comedy back to the screen. One of the biggest challenges is making a version of a classic that people won’t compare or criticize but will enjoy and applaud.”

The series features a small cast led by Memo Villegas and Regina Blandón, supported by directors like Magaby García and Salvador Suárez. Quintanilla noted, “One of the greatest challenges was maintaining a tone of realistic romantic comedy without falling into farce.”

MULTIPLATFORM STRATEGY

Although the show will debut on Sony Channel, García revealed that the series is designed for multiplatform distribution: “One reason we dared to make this content is because of its ‘feel-good’ nature. Comedy is a gift that continues to yield benefits over the years and across screens or platforms. We’ll share where else it can be seen soon, as we believe it has strong potential for distribution and aligns perfectly with many of our clients and partners.”

Sony Channel’s 2025 strategy includes original projects, such as a story based on Fernando Gaitán’s idea and the relaunch of the Rosario Tijeras 4 franchise. Quintanilla explained that the channel’s regional vision aims to offer modern melodramas, major comedies, and dramas that connect with diverse audiences.

García added that the slate of projects planned for 2025 and 2026 “makes us the studio with the region’s most aggressive original production strategy. We believe in Latin America and in our content, which, combined with the efforts of our partners, reaches, interests, and resonates with audiences.”
