The Post Cannes discussion series, organized by the U.S. Círculo Creativo, kicked off last Thursday, Aug. 8, in three of its seven host cities: New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Javier Osorio, the Chicago representative of the Círculo Creativo, said that 60 people attended the discussion in that city, including creatives, producers, planners and other professionals in the Hispanic and general markets. “We did a screening of 11 winners at Cannes 2019, selected by our discussion panel that included Havas CCO John Norman, who took multiple awards including a Titanium GP and who has twice been on the Cannes jury; Creative Director Gloria Dusenberry of Ogilvy Chicago , who this year won three Lions for a total of four in her career; Executive Creative Director Jose Suaste of Fluent 360, one of Chicago’s most important multicultural agencies that has just won the U.S. Army account; and SVP Strategy Director Diego Figueroa of Leo Burnett Chicago, who has also won several Lions in his career,” Osorio said. At the meeting – sponsored by Havas and held at its Chicago office – panelists talked about their three favorite campaigns, arguing the reasons for their choice. “Norman admired the fact that brands are again taking a firm stand on social issues, as Nike did in the Dream Crazier campaign. Gloria talked about the changes the festival has undergone over the past 12 years, and how it has shifted from a festival of ideas to a marketing conference. Diego talked about the importance of a good briefing in creating festival-winning ideas. Jose talked about how hard work and raising standards should prevail over the desire to earn medals at festivals when it comes to measuring the performance of a creative department,” Osorio said. He added that the local industry is eager for this type of meetings: “The U.S. Círculo Creativo is building a platform that allows us to connect, share and learn from each other.”
