Injaus: It is crucial to connect with the young audience that has moved away from the screens

Proposals with greater freedom and grounded in current times, taking more risk, and using characters with the ability to connect with young audiences are some key elements that stories must have, commented Pablo Orden, president and founder of Agencia Literaria Injaus, to Ríchard Izarra on EN VIVO.

However, melodrama and love stories continue to be what hooks Latinos. “For me, it is essential to have a great love story, which in the end is what prevails. We try to take the story to the limit, but at its core, always with a great love story,” noted Orden, who was at Mipcom promoting the writers he represents at Injaus.

“My goal is to generate money for writers,” he said, adding that at Mipcom, “things happen” when talking with acquaintances, visiting people and friends.

Although there is a market contraction, he explained that there are waves. “What matters is to understand what is happening and what can happen. That is another goal of being here,” he said.

He commented on the importance of writing for young audiences, who have moved away from screens and only watch TikTok or YouTube. “We try to create characters that young people can identify with because it is difficult to hook young people who are in their twenties and practically view nothing. You have to look for stories that captivate them,” he said, underlining that the industry—platforms, and production companies— has to take more risks. We can’t always please everyone. Stories have to be controversial,” he said.

Among the titles that have sparked the most interest are Barajas by Laura Farhi and Laura Barneix, La Reina by Gustavo Barrios, Cuando Pase el Temblor by the writer’s group Somos Trama, Marisa Quiroga’s El Juego de las Llaves – its third season will be produced by Injaus-, and Secreto de Amigos, also by Quiroga, which has great expectations.
