ATMedios: Production companies are recognizing the importance of making their content accessible to people with disabilities

Luis Guillermo Torres: We ensure that a movie, a series, or a novel can be consumed by a deaf person or enjoyed by a blind person

Among the services offered by ATMedios are those that enable people with disabilities to access audiovisual content. For example, audio description, sign language, and closed captions in different languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, and English.

Luis Guillermo Torres, the president of this organization, stated that in recent years, more and more production companies have recognized the importance of making their content accessible to the population with different abilities. “We ensure that a movie, a series, or a novel can be consumed by a deaf person or enjoyed by a blind person,” he emphasized.

On the other hand, he mentioned that these technologies have recently gained popularity, and several countries even have legislation requiring a percentage of the content on television channels and OTT platforms to have these features implemented.

This Bogota-based company, with approximately 40 employees, also provides subtitling and dubbing services. Among its main clients are TIS, RCN, and Sony Pictures. The executive explained that they have several partnerships with entities in the U.S. and Europe whose business line is similar to that of ATMedios: “We are particularly strong in the Spanish language, so they often hire us to handle the Spanish part in some large projects.”

Regarding the current situation of the dubbing sector in Colombia, Torres stated that the country has been adapting to markets. He emphasized that 15 years ago, the costs and budgets were “much higher,” but over time, they have decreased, forcing ATMedios to adjust to this new reality. “It hasn’t been easy, but we have achieved it,” he asserted.
