David Di Lorenzo of Future Today: “Growth Of Micro-Dramas And Stronger Momentum For Kids’ Content Among The 2026 Trends”

David Di Lorenzo, Future Today: “The impact of these trends will be a more diverse and accessible media environment that fosters cultural authenticity and family co-viewing across platforms”

Looking ahead to 2026, David Di Lorenzo, Senior VP of Content Acquisitions and Partnerships at Future Today—owner of FAST initiatives such as HappyKids and Fawesome—identifies as one of the main trends in the Hispanic content industry “the sustained growth of content in both Spanish and bilingual formats that seamlessly blend Spanish and English, reflecting the everyday experience of many Hispanic families in the U.S.,” he noted.

Secondly, he observes that short-form vertical storytelling—especially micro-dramas and creator-led formats—will expand across more mobile platforms.

Thirdly, Di Lorenzo expects a stronger push for kids’ content in Spanish, particularly from trusted global brands and educational creators.

“The impact of these trends will be a more diverse and accessible media environment that fosters cultural authenticity and family co-viewing across platforms,” he said.

MORE SPANISH-LANGUAGE CONTENT ON AVOD AND FAST

Di Lorenzo believes that in 2025 one of the most significant developments was the acceleration of Spanish-language content on AVOD and FAST platforms, particularly in the U.S. market.

“Audiences continued to move away from subscription services in favor of free, ad-supported environments that offer curated, family-safe content,” he pointed out.

Another key milestone he mentioned was the formal expansion of partnerships between major Latin American content producers and global platforms, resulting in broader distribution.

“At Future Today, for example, we expanded our bilingual programming and added new strategic partnerships to strengthen our Spanish-language content offering on HappyKids and Fawesome,” he indicated.

Another important development in 2025 was the growing presence of influencer-driven content, “especially among younger and bicultural audiences,” highlighting how quickly consumption habits are evolving.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY AND CULTURALLY RELEVANT CONTENT

Asked about the types of content expected to be in highest demand in 2026, Di Lorenzo pointed to family-friendly and culturally relevant programming.

“In Latin America, animated series, telenovelas, and inspirational biographies continue to be popular. In the U.S. Hispanic market, we see greater interest in educational kids’ programming, as well as lifestyle and food content that connects with identity and tradition. There is also a growing appetite for creator-led programs that maintain quality without losing authenticity. Most importantly, content must reflect the diversity within the Hispanic audience in terms of age, nationality, and language proficiency,” he said.

THE 2026 WORLD CUP AS A CULTURAL MOMENT

Regarding the 2026 World Cup and its relevance to the audiovisual industry, Di Lorenzo stated that it is a major global event that will generate a high level of multiplatform engagement, especially among U.S. Hispanic audiences.

“It’s not just a sporting event, but a cultural moment that brings families together. For content providers, the opportunity lies in complementing live coverage with additional programming: behind-the-scenes content, highlights, and player profile specials, along with family-oriented storytelling that connects with national pride. AVOD and FAST platforms are particularly well positioned to create seasonal lineups around the World Cup, leveraging co-viewing habits and offering brand-safe environments for advertisers looking to connect meaningfully with audiences,” he concluded.
