ESPN Deportes reaffirms the power of live events and bets on more digital content

ESPN Deportes announced, during their 2015 upfront in The Hearst Tower in New York, among other things, their soon entrance in the OTT Sling TV platform, as well as the strengthening of their digital content offer with the launching of Quick Hits by ESPN Deportes and the display of coverage for the 2016 Euro Cup. The presentation was led by Ed Erhardt, president Global Customer Marketing and Sales at ESPN; Lino García, general manager; John Fitzgerald, VP Multimedia Sales at ESPN Deportes and ESPN Audio; and Rodolfo Martínez, VP International & ESPN Deportes Production.Fitzgerald highlighted that while the rest of the channels are seen on average 57% live, ESPN Deportes events are consumed 98% live. “Live events work”, he said.Martínez indicated that the coverage of the 2016 Eurocup in France, which will be aired starting July 10th next year, will have 400 hours of programming and 51 games, considerably higher than the 31 games and 200 hours aired in the 2012 edition.Regarding the entrance in DISH’s Sling TV, García told PRODU that it will be before the end of the month as part of the Deportes Extra package recently launched. “We still believe in traditional satellite and cable platforms, but must also be in these new alternatives that address millennials. These packages cost less and have more individualized options. It will be an important part of our growth”.
