As they already have done with Turkish novelas content, SOMOS Distribution is betting on two Greek novels, Sasmos and Wild bees, both have caught the attention in LA Screenings, including the Turkish novel Love for rent.

“The market is active. We had two years without meeting with people face-to-face and I think it has been a success coming to this event. For many the market is going to be gratifying,” said Francisco Villanueva, VP and COO of SOMOS Distribution, who highlighted that buyers are looking for novels for primetime “and the Turkish continue to be very solid”. Also, he said that in the case of those channels that want to counter-programming they are looking for contests and reality shows.

For Villanueva, there is an opportunity for independents in this market, since studios “are saving content for their own platforms and it makes us more interesting for platforms and clients. International content becomes more interesting and that is where we are important because we have the know-how to find international content that is unknown and that could become part of the region of the platforms. For example, that is what we are doing with the two Greek novels –Wild bees and Sasmos– and with the Turkish Love for Rent and we search for the market. We used to do that before and it was not so easy, now it seems that it is easier because the platforms are hungry for serial content, and also the open channels are looking for more novela-type content.”
