Classified by the EPA at 45 mpg on the highway, the new Ford Fiesta is the non-hybrid, non-diesel vehicle with the lowest fuel consumption on the market. Ford is also studying cruise control, a breakthrough technology that predicts road conditions to boost fuel savings even more. And now theres Auto Start-Stop technology.”Simply put, Auto Start-Stop helps customers use less fuel, which is an important component of Ford’s Blueprint for Sustainability” said Bob Fascetti, VP of Ford global powertrain. “By making Auto Start-Stop available on more vehicles, we are working to be part of the solution to environmental sustainability with effective, fuel-saving technologies”.Auto Start-Stop turns off the motor when the vehicle comes to a stop, at which point a battery takes over unnoticeably to keep all the accessories and systems in the vehicle working thus saving fuel. The motor starts up again immediately and easily the instant the driver begins taking his or her foot off the brake pedal. The amount of fuel saved varies and depends on driving patterns.In the United States, Auto Start-Stop technology is available in the Ford Fusion with 1.5 liter EcoBoost. The expansion of the Auto Start-Stop function is a milestone in the Ford Blueprint for Sustainability, which includes a whole series of new technologies to improve vehicle efficiency.
