Luciana Cani of LAPIZ: In a few years the ad industry will be more gender-balanced

Cani: Lo que necesitamos es entrenar y apoyar a esta nueva generación

Senior VP Executive Creative Director Luciana Cani of LAPIZ predicts a prominent future for women in the advertising industry: “I think our future is brilliant. When I started my career 21 years ago, women were in the minority, especially in the creative department. Nowadays, not many of us are working in top positions. But I’m sure the situation will change – it’s a matter of time. A lot of women working in creative departments today will be promoted to higher positions tomorrow. In a few years, the industry will be more balanced.” Cani had taken part in a panel discussing the role of Hispanic women in advertising with Spain’s Club de Creativos, a conference held Thursday March 8, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. “The experience was amazing,” she said. “The panelists discussed many interesting topics like, the highs and lows we’ve come up against during our careers, and how we can provide more opportunities for women.” The event also included an expo from the Spanish Club de Creativos, in which women reflected on their role in the industry and had written thank-you letters to people who supported them in their rise to the top. “Surprisingly, many letters were addressed to men who helped those women move up. It brings hope to a young generation of advertising students and it shows a different side of our industry. We know there are many problems to be fixed, but there are also many beautiful and inspiring stories to be shared,” Cani said.
