Juan Gabriel

Azteca America presents a tribute to Juan Gabriel this Sunday, August 27 starting at 3pm/2C with four specials on the life, death, and legacy of one of the most iconic stars in Latin American music.

With over 1,800 songs written by him, 15,000 live performances since 1970, and over 150 million records sold around the world, singer and song writer Alberto Aguilera Valadez, best known as Juan Gabriel, left an unforgettable mark on Mexican and Latin American popular music with his singular performing style, at once captivating and daring.

On August 28, 2016, after performing what would be his final concert in Los Angeles, California, the music superstar died as a result of a heart attack. The music world was shocked by his death and the repercussions of his loss were felt in the arts community and by political figures immediately, not to mention millions of fans throughout North and South America who mourned his death.

This Sunday, to mark the anniversary of the death of the “Divo de Juárez,” Azteca America will air a tribute to the late icon beginning with an unfiltered look at the man himself at 3pm/2C with Ventaneando Sin Filtro: Homenaje a Juan Gabriel.

At 4:30pm/3:30C, Pati Chapoy will present two very revealing interviews with Juan Gabriel in Pati Chapoy Presenta a Juan Gabriel.

At 5:30pm/4:30C, the tribute continues with a special report on his lineage entitled Juan Gabriel, El Linaje Insospechado followed by the final special honoring the superstar at 6:30pm/5:30C: El Día Fatídico: Juan Gabriel. This last program looks back at the fateful day of his death, the transporting of his remains, and the posthumous memorials held in his honor in Ciudad Juárez and Mexico City, as well as the countless tributes held by thousands of fans in the United States.
