“I don’t want to be unfair to other of our productions, but I think this is one of the best projects I’ve ever done,” said Marie Leguizamo, General Director at Banijay Mexico & US Hispanic, about the fifth season of LOL (Last One Laughing) Mexico that will be release g on Friday the 16th on Amazon Prime. “This season was Banijay’s first project in Mexico & the US Hispanic, so it’s very special for us as a company and for me as a producer and showrunner,” she said. She added that it’s not easy for a show to reach a fifth season, especially in these times.

This time, the new season brings “the best losers” of the last previous four, also called “LOLStars” or “champions without a crown”. This group includes Ricardo Pérez, El Diablito, La Chupitos, Ricardo Peralta, El Borrego Nava, Isabel Fernández, Slobotzky and Capi Pérez. Also the number of contestants went from ten to eight.

“In addition, we included the public at certain times of the show, which we call ‘LOL moments’ and we will have other surprises that I cannot reveal,” said Leguizamo. She noted that it was challenging for the production team and Eugenio Derbez, to define the challenges of the contest and the situations that the participants will endure, since all of the contestants have experience with the show and know what they are going to face.

“For these innovations, we listened to what the audience proposed on social networks. Also, we already know what worked in other seasons. We have a very high bar. It is a show that has been growing, that has a fandom and it has to continue surprising the audience,” she said.

The new season has six episodes and each one will give space for each talent to have their leading moment. “Let’s wait and see what each of them will bring and if they repeat those songs that the audience liked.”
