One of Estudios RCN’s major productions for 2025 is the new version of La Hija del Mariachi, a musical drama that has been filming since last January and will premiere on its broadcast and digital platforms in Colombia on June 11. On May 27, the series was officially presented to the media in Bogotá, with PRODU among those in attendance.

La Hija del Mariachi tells the love story between Rosario (Essined Aponte), a talented Colombian mariachi singer, and Emiliano (Roberto Romano), a Mexican businessman who flees his country and seeks refuge in Colombia. He ends up finding a new chance at life at Plaza Garibaldi, a mariachi bar. The series is a new version of the original idea by Mónica Agudelo, which first aired in 2005.

PLENTY OF MUSIC FOR VIEWERS

At the media launch event, held in the studio where the bar set is recreated, there was a performance by the actors who play the musicians, led by the show’s stars: Puerto Rican actress Essined Aponte, Mexican actor Roberto Romano, and Colombian actor Brian Moreno.

“Music was a big challenge—first, because it’s mariachi; second, because we have original songs, and people are going to love that,” said Essined. “As the characters go through different experiences, they create songs, and that happens right in the middle of scenes. There’s a lot of a cappella singing and lots of performances.”

The cast also includes Marcela Gallego, Ilenia Antonini, Francisco Avendaño, Tuto Patiño, Santana Rosa, Ramsés Ramos, Juan Cruz, Vanessa Silva, Ignacio Riva, Tommy Vásquez, Sofía Lama, Julián Trujillo, and Denia Agalianou. Most of them attended the media event.

THE TEAM BEHIND LA HIJA DEL MARIACHI

This modern version of the series is directed by Juan Carlos Mazo (Rigo, Darío Gómez: El Rey del Despecho) and Lucho Sierra (Darío Gómez: El Rey del Despecho, Ana de Nadie). “You’re going to experience a lot of music, endearing characters. Lots of color, joy, celebration, humanity. This new story also has a parallel plotline filled with action,” explained Sierra.

The 2025 script was written by Gerardo Pinzón Ochoa and Carolina López Rodríguez, Karen Rodríguez, and Tatiana Andrade, with support from Daniel Turriago Amaya. The executive producer is Ana María Pérez (Rigo, Darío Gómez: El Rey del Despecho) and the line producer is Carolina Vera.

“With their passion, talent, and love for this industry and craft, they’ve created scenes that are out of this world when it comes to lighting, sound, cinematography—a semi-theatrical presentation. It’s a great combination,” said lead actor Roberto Romano about the team behind the cameras.

After Mexico, Colombia has one of the largest mariachi scenes in the world. This series celebrates that musical tradition, which has brought these two nations even closer. The show’s storyline also explores universal themes such as love, identity, and overcoming obstacles.
