Mexicanal, a TV channel created for Mexicans living and working in the U.S. and Canada, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month with expanding audiences in the major Hispanic markets.
“We are incredibly proud to have reached this milestone taking the best of their homeland to the millions of Mexicans who have moved north, connecting them every day with their culture and traditions, from Michoacan and Jalisco to Puebla and Oaxaca,” said Luis Torres-Bohl, Founding President of Mexicanal. “We look forward to continuing this mission for many years to come,” he added.
Launched by DIRECTV in August 2005, Mexicanal is now available through Charter Communications, Comcast, Dish, Bell Canada and other key distributors. In recent years, Mexicanal has extended its reach through the launch of new OTT services from Charter (XUMO) and Comcast (NOW).
“Our distribution partnerships have become stronger, and this anniversary presents an opportunity to renew our commitment to deliver new programming from Mexico’s diverse regions and to enhance our original productions,” said Demian Torres-Bohl, President of the channel.
“Our audience has grown beyond those born in Mexico living in the U.S. to include millions of Mexican-Americans, other Hispanics and Americans who also appreciate Mexican culture and enjoy our programming,” he said.
Some of the most acclaimed Mexicanal productions include the series Las Cantinas de Cornelio, where TV and radio personality Cornelio Garcia takes us on a journey to experience traditional cantinas throughout Mexico, and Liga Mexicana de Jaripeo, a weekly Mexican rodeo program anchored by bull-riding expert Luis de A. As part of its programming, Mexicanal also offers Notas Al Migrante, a segment with useful information for immigrants, from health topics to advice from an immigration lawyer.
Based in San Luis Potosi, in central Mexico, over the past two decades the independent and minority-owned company has hired hundreds of local people as full-time employees and free-lancers across numerous productions.
