Sandra Smester: "A solid programming strategy will help us continue growing and maintain our position as the #1 primetime network from Monday to Sunday"
Telemundo’s new slogan, “Estás en vivo, estás en Telemundo” (“You’re live, you’re on Telemundo”) highlights the network’s current focus: live television.
“From 5am to 7pm, when we hand over to primetime, and now even until midnight with La Casa de los Famosos airing live alongside local news—our local stations, Hoy Día, and our afternoon shows, which had outstanding ratings in 2024—it’s clear that live TV is our top priority. Live TV is Telemundo,” said Sandra Smester, EVP of Programming & Content Development at NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, in an interview with PRODU.
When asked about Telemundo’s digital strategy, Smester emphasized the importance of quality content. “Once you have great content, you distribute it across platforms. Telemundo’s YouTube channel is a strong asset. The goal is to keep feeding that platform and others, using them as valuable resources for both existing and new content,” she explained.
Smester reaffirmed her focus on Telemundo’s linear programming—primetime, daytime, news, and sports. “A solid programming strategy will help us continue growing and maintain our position as the #1 primetime network from Monday to Sunday. Our goal is to achieve this again in 2025 because 2026 will be a major year for us.”
She added that the priority is to seek out the best content: the best strategies, top-tier reality shows, and high-quality series. “We’re working closely with Telemundo Studios to develop the series planned for 2025 and 2026. It’s all about constant innovation, creation, and forward momentum,” she concluded.
