Mi Camino es Amarte, the Mexican adaptation of TVN Chile El Camionero, will debut in the US next Tuesday the 15th. The series, which is in the hands of Nicandro Díaz for TelevisaUnivision, debuted on Monday the 7th on Las Estrellas México. “We start with the numbers expected,” according to Díaz.

“It is a Chilean story, but with many features similar to our idiosyncrasy, that is why we selected it for that purpose and adapted it to Mexico. In addition, being a story of values, it’s universal,” said Díaz, who commented that the series has 92.5 episodes planned (this number is due to the fact that in Mexico it will end on Sunday with a special episode of two hours and a half). He indicated that they are already in the middle of the recordings and it is estimated that they will end in the second or third week of January 2023. The release is planned for March.

Among the elements that distinguish this project is the fact that in the original version, the character played by Sara Corrales, the villain, did not have a partner, while in the Mexican version she has a husband, but the protagonist does not know it. “We did this in order to make her more villainous,” Díaz pointed out.

In terms of locations, it is being recorded mainly on the highway to Querétaro, “where the whereabouts of the truck drivers are” and in Santa Fe, in the state of Mexico, Morelos, Yucatán, Guerrero, as well as in the facilities of Televisa San Ángel (forums 8 and 1). “The screen is always grateful to have diverse exteriors,” emphasized Díaz.

Asked about the relevance of this novel for the US Hispanic, he said: “Truck drivers [in the US], as in Mexico, are essential, because they are the key distribution factor of goods and services in a country, having a direct impact on the economy. The truck drivers’ community is very united. They have their links through different platforms and channels, through radio stations, that identify them, which also is the case in the US, there is a common denominator that we think can work and values that are universal: friendship, honesty, love, brotherhood. If the telenovela works well in Mexico, it will be a benchmark for it to work well in the US.”

Mi Camino es Amarte, starring Susana González, Gabriel Soto, Ximena Herrera, and Mark Tacher, is the story of Memo Santos (Soto), a simple, hard-working trailer driver of humble origins who, upon learning that he has a daughter, decides to look for her at the home of the family that adopted her.

Díaz highlighted the work of the protagonist, Gabriel Soto, with whom he had not worked since Carita de Ángel. “The depth that he has given to Memo’s emotions has been incredible. He had to learn to drive a trailer and the handling of symbols such as the use of the bandana and the Virgen del Carmen. He has immersed under the skin of the character that has pleasantly surprised me.”

To conclude, he announced that they are already working on several possible projects. “The producers are always looking forward and we have two projects in the drawer, in one we are looking for the rights, and in the other we already have them. We haven’t decided which one we’re going with. In addition to other content designed for the series.”
