Andrés Mendoza, VP of Programming and Strategy of UniMás

One of the main tasks of Andrés Mendoza as VP of Programming and Strategy of UniMás is expanding the channel offering with existing Univision resources such as radio and sports, in an effort to provide content options for a younger and more male target.“Sports and music is something we want to add to the UniMás grid; not for this year, but for 2015. These plans follow the channel’s strategy of offering windows of alternative content. A good example is what we’ve done with El Palenque: it’s very innovative and growing in ratings,” Mendoza told PRODU.The Venezuelan executive, who comes from the defunct channel RCTV and has been working closely with Alberto Ciurana, President of Programming and Content of Univision Communications, has been at his post at UniMás for less than two months.Mendoza said that Carlos Bardasano, who was recently promoted to VP of Original Content of Univision, has been programming the network’s primetime, defining the strategy for alternative series.“The company is putting a lot of emphasis on UniMás. The alternative content in primetime is so important that, in order to strengthen the work with our co-producers and partners -Venevision, Caracol, RTI, Televisa, Sony-, Ciurana decided to have a dedicated person to manage this and Bardasano was appointed to the important role that is the primetime of UniMás,” said Mendoza. In regards to the digital platforms, he said that all series have content for digital. “We did it with La Viuda Negra, and we’ll do it again with El Chivo; we’ll have exclusive content for digital platforms created by the same producers and with the same talent. We are going to do it with DeMente Criminal. The idea is to do it with each production, starting with primetime and then moving to daytime as well,” he added.
