Univision launches Novelas Xpress for new short-form telenovela format

Aliaga: Novelas Xpress se lanza con 17 de las novelas de más éxito de Univisión

Univision Communications Inc. announced the launch of Novelas Xpress, abridged versions of popular telenovelas that deliver all the drama and passion of the original stories – in smaller and more concentrated packages –15 hours in total length or less. Novelas Xpress, available via desktop as well as mobile, launched with seventeen of Univision’s all-time greatest hit novelas including Amores Verdaderos, El Triunfo del Amor, La Madrastra and Rosa Salvaje. Eight titles are available exclusively on the company’s online digital video network, UVideos, and nine through a partnership with Hulu. Univision has worked with Hulu since 2011. “There is no denying that the media landscape has changed, which is primarily driven by the strong appetite for digital content on mobile devices. With this innovative take on our most popular entertainment format, we are able to bring additional ways for our audience to experience their favorite programming as well as engage new viewers,” said Emilio Aliaga, VP, Digital Content, Univision Communications Inc. “Novelas Xpress brings together three years of insights about our digital Hispanic audience, combined with Univision’s commitment to innovate and adapt to the digital video trends. This format is perfect for the mobile Hispanic viewer and we are excited the English subtitles will invite a broader Hulu audience to check out these engaging Univision hits,” commented Rodrigo Mazon, director of Content Acquisitions at Hulu. Novelas Xpress, which compliments Univision’s existing popular slate of prime-time novelas, marks the trend of Hispanics and short-form video consumption, particularly on mobile.
