TelevisaUnivision and ViX Hold Premiere of Tierra de Amor y Coraje in Tucson, Arizona

Against the backdrop of the historic Benedictine monastery on Country Club Road, now transformed into La Rosa in Tucson, Arizona, TelevisaUnivision hosted the red carpet and premiere of its original production Tierra de Amor y Coraje, produced by José Alberto “El Güero” Castro. The series premieres this Friday, August 7, on ViX in the U.S. and will also premiere on Univision at a later date.

Felipe García, president and CEO of Visit Tucson, opened the presentation by thanking the production for the opportunity to have the city and region serve as the main filming location for Tierra de Amor y Coraje. He thanked his team and, in particular, Mónica López, senior production manager at Film Tucson, who coordinated the event and played a key role in supporting the production. He also thanked Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, who attended the event.

Nitzia Chama, a member of Univision Miami’s Despierta América team, introduced the main cast of Tierra de Amor y Coraje: actress Sofía Castro and actors Emilio Osorio, Emmanuel Palomares and Brandon Peniche, along with producer Castro. “Tonight we are here to enjoy and honor the work that has gone into this production over the past several months. I also want to recognize that now they are bringing stories to this side of the border. Long live immigrants!” she said.

The producer and cast members then participated in a Q&A session, discussing the advantages the region offers as a filming location, the amount of time they spent in the area—approximately nine weeks—the challenges of being away from their families for such a long period, and anecdotes from their days on set.

Castro highlighted the importance of Latinos in the U.S. and their contributions to both stories and the local economy. “Latinos today represent an economic force, a workforce and a political force in the U.S., and here in this state they make us feel like equals. We have been welcomed in such a warm way. Thanks to the people at Los Cerros Ranch, they made us feel at home and were incredibly involved. These kinds of circumstances make it possible for us to come here to work.

“Today, TelevisaUnivision is making an effort to bring our stories to where people live. In the past, we were concerned about the second and third generations, giving them that sense of longing and nostalgia. Today, we have to participate in what represents us in this community. Today, we want our stories to feel like their own in each of these cities, where each one of you lives, because these stories are about you,” he concluded.

Tierra de Amor y Coraje is based on Irmãos Coragem (Brothers Coragem), a landmark 1970 Brazilian telenovela created by writer Janete Clair. Its theme song is “Desde que Te Tengo” by Carin León.
