Following its launch on Netflix this past October 9, Raphael’s biographical series, Aquel, is seeking to expand its reach through new distribution windows. This was confirmed by Lisette Osorio, VP of International Business at Caracol Televisión, which co-produced the project together with DLO.

“Aquel is on Netflix in Spain and across the Americas on Netflix, and for the rest of the world we hold all distribution rights, so we expect it to be on free TV in many other countries,” the executive revealed to PRODU, in an interview conducted during MIPCOM 2026.

Aquel had a strong launch when it premiered on Netflix, but that does not mean all the windows are committed for the rest of the world.

A PRODUCER’S PERSPECTIVE

For Lisette Osorio, one of the starting points for Aquel was finding a narrative capable of transcending prior knowledge of Raphael. The series needed to offer a story that could be followed without the viewer needing to know his discography or public career.

“There’s a promotional tagline we have that is very powerful and says a lot about what the series is: ‘The myth who dreamed himself into being’,” she explained.

The phrase sums up the approach to the lead character and the decisions that helped shape his career. “When you get to know Raphael more closely, you understand how he became the artist he is,” she noted.

And Lisette Osorio’s involvement with Aquel goes beyond distribution. She was essential as one of the series’ producers: “We were there from the moment we sought to reach Raphael, where the entire business framework was built for each episode alongside José Manuel Lorenzo in Spain. Being able to work with a talent like him is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had in my career. In Colombia, Dago García and Asier Aguilar led the effort. We formed a great team in both countries.”

The executive points out that Caracol lets its staff “dream” of carrying out major projects like this one and feel that “there are no limits,” reasons that helped the company achieve a milestone for a Colombian company: co-producing in Spain.

“What we’ve achieved is very important. We did it in Mexico with Vicente Fernández, we did it with Pedro, El Escamoso with Disney. And now having a figure of Raphael’s global stature in our hands is historic. It’s something I’m immensely grateful for, to the universe and to the company,” she concluded.
