Sapir: Creo que el cine es un arte tan complejo co
Argentina is a country with creativity and film tradition. Esteban Sapir is one of the most prolific and renown directors in the country, both for his fiction films and his advertising pieces. Since he was a child he was interested in photography. That was his father´s hobby and each image he showed him aroused great fascination in him. His first steps in the movies were as a camera assistant and then director of photography. At the same time, he began working with great directors from the advertising field, such as Pucho Mentasti, Lucho Bender and Marcelo Schejtman. He has filmed more than 300 commerciales for brands like Unilever, Peugeot, Budweiser, Pepsi, Ford and Visa; and documentary projects for Shakira and Sony Music International. His feature films are Picado Fino and La Antena.Sapir confessed that, although film and advertising are two completely different languages, he borrows from film a great deal for the spots he makes. “I am interested in working with images and actos, I like to tell stories and attempt my pieces to be seen as small scenes from a film. Another aim is to manage to get what I tell to feel real and plausible, and for it to convey things to viewers, even if it’s just in a few seconds”, he explained.In his fiction pieces he enjoys experimenting with language, the expression of pure image and the complex discourse of edition. Both Picado Fino as La Antena are very personal and peculiar films. I like to convey personal worlds in each piece, but at the same time, they must tell a story that constantly stimulates the viewer. I think film is such a complex art as life: it has images, sounds, time and it offers the ability to choose and reinterpret”.For the director, the most important thing in a film is to find the truth you want to tell and to be coherent with the story. “I think that a film should convey something that cannot be explained simply with words, and that is definitely what I am most interested in, to separate the viewer from his reason and engage him from a more amusing and sensitive place ” he commented.Science fiction is among his favorite genres. Sapir enjoys utopian movies, because he believes that when they deal with social topics, they are sometimes more realistic than documentaries. I like Sector 9 and V for Vendeta very much”. The list of directors he admires is long, but if he could travel in time and work with some of them, he would choose to go back to the early days of cinema. “I think the wit and creativity of the pioneers is much more interesting, because they actually created the language and marked the path. I would have loved to see Chaplin filming Modern Times or Fritz Lang Metropolis.When he directs a spot, his main focus is on “aesthetics treatment of the image and simplification of the story”. Thanks to the prolific advertising industry in Argentina, Sapir was trained by great creatives and teams in the agencies, whom he is very grateful to.Currently he has several projects in the horizon. Among them is a film for children and a TV series.Production Company:Cortez Brothers, USAContact: {Martin Feuerstein;martin@cortezbrothers.com} T +1-310-821-8280{Watch video;http://www.produ.com/publicidad/videos/index.html?Noti=9732}
