When did you decide to dedicate your life to directing?
I always dreamed with being a director, but never saw it as something viable. For some reason, it was out of my reach. One day, I simple quit beating around the bush and to dedicate my life to this. Everything I do is linked to cinema, art, and constant work.
How would you define your visual style?
I think the key has been to never stop experimenting and to make the most out of each style. I have had the opportunity to venture into aesthetics that are totally different from one another. And that has allowed me to nurture myself more and more. Videoclips, documentaries, advertising… There are different ways to tap into each one. I always contribute to new pieces a bit of the experience obtained from previous ones.
What brands or clients have you worked with recently?
Walmart, Sabritas, SAM´S Club, Garnier, Galletas Emperador, Vodka Wyborowa.
Are you preparing any fiction projects?
There are a couple of feature film projects that are still a script. On the other hand, I regularly adapt short films to videoclips, those are the most frequent fiction projects. One of these is about to be launched. I am still working on it.
How do you see the future of advertising?
I think the important thing is to keep in mind that that future is in our hands. As long as I can fight to break rules, generate impact and maintain an aesthetics that protects brands, I will.
Where’s Charlie Nelson heading in the future?
What I am truly interested in and that thrills me equally are the possibility to do amazing things, great things. Always.
