Cannes Chimera Initiative and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation campaign to eradicate poverty

Cannes Chimera Initiative and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have united to offer people in the advertising and communications industry the chance to come up with creative ideas that will make a world-changing difference in the fight against poverty. Sept. 30 was the final date for submitting proposals, and when the winners are announced, they will then be able to work with the group of 2013 Cannes Lions Grand Prix winners to improve the idea. Over the past 20 years the number of people living on less than US$1.25 a day has dropped to 1.1 billion. However, Tom Scott of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation says the goal is to eradicate poverty for good by the year 2030.The Cannes Chimera is looking for communications strategies to help achieve that objective. The website Cannes Chimera motivates people to “use their creative and persuasive talents to help build a better future for mankind.”The challenge consists in finding the most innovative communications ideas in the world to help achieve this long-term goal. The immediate intention is to raise public awareness and to support with the necessary investment whatever it takes to keep the process going. Winners of the contest can improve and put into practice their concept with that aid of big-time investments from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and their global associates.The initiative also targets people who believe that doing something about the global problem is important but have never actually lent a helping hand themselves.
