Facebook and its partner company Instagram are really willing to take on its rival Twitter and reach journalist and media with its own trending topics. Signal, the new tool available in these social networks, will allow following up the most relevant news. In a Facebook blog post, Andy Mitchell, director of media partnerships said that Signal is “a free discovery and curation tool for journalists who want to source, gather, and embed newsworthy content from Facebook and Instagram.” For Mitchell, this tool complements Facebook’s Mentions app, allowing journalists and celebrities the opportunity to broadcast live video streams and create posts that only go out to their followers. Signal features include: classification of trending contents, not only on people’s accounts but also in company’s pages, which opens great opportunities for brands. Signal will also display who are Facebook’s users trending posts, and in Instagram, will find the most popular images in the timeline.Facebook also thought about the possibility for journalists to integrate Signal APIs to feed curated content onto their websites and into their broadcasts. However brands and other users will have to wait, because it’s only available for verified journalists’ profiles for now.
