Grey Group celebrated its 100 anniversary on Tuesday August 1st and appointed Michael Houston as new Global CEO at WPP’s Grey Group. The announcement was made by his predecesor Jim Heekin, in a memo that went out to all staff Tuesday morning. Houston is the fifth person to occupy this position since the agency foundation in 1917. “The Centennial has been a time to reflect on our extraordinary journey and look to the future. As we celebrate our anniversary, and a decade of record growth and creative performance, the time is right for the elevation of a new generation” said Heekin, who will step into the Executive Chairman role of the group. He added that he was pleased with Houston’s designation, both changes are effective immediately. Houston began at Grey in 2007 and rapidly became a key actor in the team that transformed the New York office and the region of North America into a creative driving force and of new businesses, said Heekin. Before this appointment, Houston was the group’s Global President since 2016, after serving as North American CEO. He has held positions as Global Chief Marketing Officer (2010), Managing Director at Grey NY (2011), COO in 2012 and that same year was included in Crain’s, 40 Under 40 list. Under Houston’s leadership, Grey has won over clients such as Gillette, Volvo, Nestlé, Hasbro, Papa John’s, Kellogg’s, and Marriott.
