The industry followed with interest and admiration PRODU’s interview with Univision Networks President César Conde, published in installments over the past few weeks.“It is the first time an Univisión president grants such a a good and extensive interview.” “Interesting and insightful for those of us in the industry.” “It reveals the human fiber of the leader of the top Hispanic TV company in the U.S.” These were some of the comments received at PRODU from different industry people. This fourth and last installment of the interview deals with Conde’s history; a New York native from immigrant roots: a Peruvian father and a Cuban mother.“I’m one of those people who can do different things, and thank God life brings unexpected gifts. After studying up north, I started as an investment banker on Wall Street. After getting my Masters degree I started in the area of New Media. I had the opportunity to work at the White House with Colin Powell. Eight years ago, I arrived at Univisión as assistant to the president at the time, and have worked many different positions since. A year and a half ago, I was offered this post and so far I believe results have been good,” said Conde. The executive points out he has “a Latin heart and an American head.” Other than the years he spent studying and working up north, Conde has spent the rest of his life in Miami. He has visited the vast majority of large Latin American cities, but he still has not been to Cuba. When asked about the reasons for the strong connection between Hispanic families and Univisión, Conde says: “We have defended the Hispanic community for 50 years. Our mission at Univisión is to inform, entertain, and strengthen Latinos. That kind of perspective is what helps Univisión established such a special relationship.”
