Telemundo 51 of Miami raises over $4.6 million during telethon for Liga Contra el Cáncer

WSCV / Telemundo 51 produced its 13th annual telethon to benefit Liga Contra el Cáncer, Miami’s not for profit organization which, since 1975, provides free diagnostic screenings and live saving medical treatment to cancer patients who don’t have the necessary financial resources or insurance coverage to battle the disease. By the end of the seven hour live telecast $4,640,000 had been pledged, and this figure is expected to grow as the organization continues totaling the pledges.“We are very proud of our community partnership with Liga Contra el Cáncer, a unique and outstanding organization, and to know that by producing the annual telethon we can make a major difference in the lives of so many people in South Florida,” said Manuel Martínez, Telemundo 51 president and general manager.The show included musical performances by eighteen well-known and very popular singers, some local and some who flew in from Los Angeles, Chile and the Dominican Republic to donate their talent by performing at the event. The list of performers included: Jencarlos Canela, Albita Rodríguez, Myriam Hernández, Maria Conchita Alonso, Mayré Martínez and Carlos Oliva.
