Cinelatino celebrates Mexico’s Independence Day with the U.S. TV premiere of La Hija de Montezuma

Cinelatino is celebrating Mexico’s Independence Day on Wednesday, September 16, with the U.S. television premiere of La Hija de Montezuma (Montezuma’s Daughter), the final film of beloved Mexican icon La India María. The film will premiere with back to back showings at 9pm ET/6pm PT & 11pm ET/8pm PT, with a special repeat showing on Sunday, September 20, at 7pm ET/4pm PT & 11pm ET/8pm PT. Portrayed by celebrated actress and comedian María Elena Velasco, La India María has appeared in dozens of films and television series throughout the past 40 years. La Hija de Montezuma, directed by Velasco’s son, Iván Lipkies, is the actress’s final film before passing away in May of 2015 at 74 years old.Never-before-seen in the U.S., La Hija de Montezuma is a comedy action-adventure in which La India María is sent on a mission by her grandfather to prevent the destruction of Mexico. The film also stars celebrated Mexican actor-comedians Eduardo Manzano and Rafael Inclan as Montezuma. “We are honored to pay tribute to the life of the deeply influential actress Maria Elena Velasco and her iconic character, La India María, with the exclusive U.S. premiere of her final film.
