Screen Capital: The best moment for producers

Compo Screen Capital

Screen Capital is the new company created by Joyce Zylberberg, Tatiana Emden —who worked in the Ministry of Culture in Chile—, and Edgar Spielmann (former FOX). It is an administration company of investment funds specialized in the audiovisual and entertainment sector.

“This year we created our first Investment fund, Screen One, a US$20 risk capital, aimed mainly at co-producing series and films. The model combines the audiovisual industry with escalation and diversification characteristic of venture capital,” explained Zylberberg.

According to the executives, Latin America has great content-generation capabilities that have been historically subsidized by the State or financed through local television channels, which are going through a crisis.

“This could have remained that way if there would not have been a defining change: the entrance of streaming platforms to the equation. Today, these platforms have a demand for local content that can be distributed globally. From there, we thought it was necessary to have a much more agile financing model. The Screen model is supported in its shape by Venture Capital, in which each project is considered a startup, it accesses the financing and the know-how of the administration company to boost it and give it better networks,” he explained.

“Our motto is to invest in entertainment, creativity, and talent with a global vision. What mobilizes us is to discover projects with audience potential and equip it with viable commercial structure,” added Emden.

Meanwhile, Edgar Spielmann feels this is the best moment for producers because digital platforms are seeking local content.
