Adaptation and production agility crucial factors

Daniel Benaim, Venezuelan producer and director, that had been developing a series of musicals titles Voces de…, was directly affected by the pandemic since due to the impossibility of meeting physically, the production was paralyzed, and on the other hand, advertisers put their investments on stand-by for these events with direct sponsoring.

He mentioned that they had planned to produce four to six 90-minute episodes of the series. “We are evaluating new dates for the episodes,” he said.

Benaim used the quarantine time to learn about other disciplines with online courses. “I have also been able to review some script proposals, watch series, and similar musical projects, and adjust the content, professional, and life expectations,” he detailed.

Benaim comments that the new production reality will include camera-men and technicians with masks and gloves, to scenes that will have to be rewritten, “and in the case that occupies me, cleaning and disinfecting, musical equipment, microphones, size of the stage, work schedules, food areas, and providers, number of artists on the scene, and amount or presence of the audience in the forum. I think we will have to assume an audience used to new options, and that some production values are moved to a second place. Adaptation and production agility can be a crucial factor in some genres. We compete with the immediacy of social platforms. Time is no longer the same.”

He feels that after the pandemic, some areas will continue being worked from home and remote work will be part of the new normality. “Digital is here to stay”.
