Juan Carlos Valdivia, director of the first unit of the eighth season of El Señor de los Cielos, a series produced in Mexico by Telemundo Global Studios, announced that four new directors, Valdivia, Conrado Martínez, Mauricio Meneses and Bernardo Mota, are joining him in its production. The new season premieres on Tuesday the 17th.

“The success of the franchise relies on observing what works, but at the same time expecting new things. Perhaps that is why new directors have been brought in to give a new look,” he said, after commenting that one of the things that this season will bring is a new visuality with a lot of color.

The return of Rafael Amaya (Aurelio Casillas) is great news for the series, in a highly anticipated eighth season after almost three years since season seven. He said that the production, which began in September and ends in February, has been intense, but with a lot of teamwork and communication. Karen Barroeta, Ximena Cantuarias and Harold Sánchez, from Telemundo, are the Executive Producers.

“A lot of work has been done on the visual language, more color and a mixture of languages. The interesting thing about El Señor de los Cielos is that it is very baroque, very broad, due to the number of characters and each one developing in specific places. There are different and contrasting elements,” he mentioned, after commenting that they have woven the narrative threads, to create a different visual fabric.

“It encompasses an important part of melodrama and of action, and in this season it touches the supernatural and magical realism,” he pointed out. For him the story has multiple plots that intersect. In his case, he has worked particularly with emotions and feelings. He is very happy with the production results.

For Valdivia has been very special working on this series, due to the support it has from the public, which is also a great responsibility. “We recently did some scenes in a popular area, and I was impressed by the response from the people, who wanted to take photos with all the characters.”
