TelevisaUnivision upgraded seven production booths (PCR: Production Control Room) for sports content, two of them fully equipped with VR technology. The objective is to cover the extensive sports activity taking place in Mexico during 2023, indicated Elías Rodríguez, General Director of Operations and Technology of the company.

“Last year we had to put into Sports more technology in order to cover 40% more production in Mexico, a trend that continues this year,” said Rodríguez. “We reinforced and renewed seven PCR and four sports studios and at least two of them fully with AR and VR technology, all in Mexico, while in Miami we have a similar amount of facilities.”

Rodríguez underlined the importance of advancing in more efficient broadband networks for phasing out latency, especially when international events are broadcast. “In the technological world, a second means a lot, it can be the goal of the game.” Likewise, he highlighted that the distribution of content, be it drama, sports, or news, is a neuralgic and difficult issue.

“When we create content we have to ensure that it reaches both the most demanding HDR or 4K platform and those of a few megabytes, marketing is not the same for all so this whole process continues to be a great challenge. Multi-platform content remains our great goal,” he concluded.
