Panel WAWA de Natpe

Business integration and collaboration between different areas of companies, doing more with fewer resources, thinking digital first, following audiences, the emergence of female leadership, and the globalization of content were some of the topics addressed in the panel Reinventing the Wheel in Times of Disruption during the WAWA Wonder Women Lunch, held this Wednesday on the second day of NATPE Global Miami.

The panel, moderated by Cynthia Hudson, Senior VP and General Manager of CNN en Español, included Carmen Larios, Senior VP of Content at A&E and Lifetime Networks for Latin America, and Selina Nederhand, Senior VP and Co-Networks Head of Content Strategy at Sony Pictures Television (SPT), both winners of WAWA’s 2023 Women of the Year.

Regarding business integration, Nederhand said that they are always looking for ways of cooperation and finding models that work with all departments at Sony. For her part, Larios indicated that now they have to “do much more with less.”

Nederhand also underlined the importance of creativity in times of crisis. She referred to the strike of Hollywood writers and actors that forced them to hold brainstorming sessions to find alternatives. “Creativity is exciting. In times of change, creativity is key. We should not be afraid of change but rather resort to creativity,” she said.

For Hudson, one of the ways they reinvented themselves at CNN en Español was to think digital first. “You have to follow the audience,” she said.

Nederhand added that they now see platforms like YouTube as a complement to the programming of Sony channels, and thanks to this, the shows’ audiences have grown immensely.

Regarding artificial intelligence, Hudson said that at CNN, they have a team analyzing how to use it as a tool, and when they do use it, they warn the audience. She highlighted the importance of being vigilant with this issue, especially in news, where there are many problems related to fake news.

Speaking of female leadership, Nederhand mentioned that the entire Latin American content team happens to be headed by women.
