John B. Pérez, SVP of News Production at Telemundo

John B. Pérez, SVP of News Production at Telemundo, highlighted to PRODU the deployment that the network will carry out to cover the presidential elections in the US and Mexico. Pérez, with 44 years of experience in TV, detailed the coverage they will provide for the Hispanic audience and spoke of his excitement for these challenging coverages and Telemundo’s dedication to telling precise and detailed stories using cutting-edge technology.

“For us, election night is a crucial moment. We focus on providing exceptional coverage that connects Latinos with our culture and gives them accurate and timely information,” Pérez stated.

“We have implemented robotic cameras controlled via IP at our US and Mexico news bureaus in our operations center in Miami. In our 16,000 square-foot newsroom, we have created a central stage to reflect our commitment to viewers and provide comprehensive and accurate coverage,” he indicated.

TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES AND COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE
The executive highlighted that they have prepared an impressive technological deployment to ensure historic coverage, for which the network has implemented advanced infrastructure including augmented reality to create graphics that complement live narratives and a 120-inch touchscreen to break down national data clearly and concisely, allowing exploration of all electoral races in real-time through interactive graphics for a detailed and personalized analysis of the results.

“Our coverage in 2020 demonstrated our commitment to journalistic excellence and dedication to providing an informative and immersive experience. This year, we are going a step further with cutting-edge technologies and an expert team,” Telemundo adds.

EXTENSIVE COVERAGE IN THE US AND MEXICO
Noticias Telemundo not only focuses on covering the elections in the US, but it is also preparing in-depth coverage for the elections in Mexico, where two of the candidates are women. Pérez highlighted the importance of this coverage for the Hispanic audience and detailed that the network will deploy teams and correspondents at strategic points in the country, including the National Electoral Institute (INE).

“It is essential for us to offer in-depth coverage of the elections in Mexico. We will send journalists and technical personnel, supported by our base team in that country, to ensure efficient logistics and adequate facilities,” Pérez mentioned.

IP TRANSMISSION AND INTERNATIONAL REACTIONS
Pérez highlighted that the adoption of IP transmission has allowed Telemundo to reach every corner of the locations. Using technologies like LiveU and IP vehicles in collaboration with NBC News, the network ensures fast and effective transmission and gathers reactions from different international countries to learn their opinions on the US elections and their results.

“Our operations team can move quickly to where the news is happening. We use remote production tools that allow our photographers to edit and transmit stories efficiently,” the specialist explained.

REMOTE PRODUCTION TO ENHANCE NEWS LEADERSHIP
Speaking of technologies that enable new paradigms like remote production, Pérez highlighted the deployment of these tools that allow seamless collaboration between journalists and editors from different locations, as well as remote reporting techniques to capture and transmit images from the field using mobile devices and remote transmission kits, expanding coverage capabilities and accelerating the news team’s response to breaking news, providing comprehensive and timely coverage to audiences.

COMMITMENT TO THE HISPANIC AUDIENCE
Telemundo’s commitment to the Hispanic audience is profound. The network strives to provide detailed and technological coverage that allows viewers to understand electoral events clearly and precisely, a conviction Pérez shares.

“We are passionate about being able to give our audience immediate information. We believe that the US elections will be extremely interesting, and we strive to bring them the immediacy of the news and cover the elections in Mexico, which are of great relevance to the Hispanic audience.”
