Kiki Meléndez, CEO of Latin Hollywood Films
Kiki Meléndez, CEO of Latin Hollywood Films, organized two latino programming showcases in New York and Los Angeles, and invited programmers, Hollywood producers, agencies and advertisers. In the events, there were 10 mini pilots of programs in all genres: dramas, sitcoms, talk shows, realities and animation.
“It was a historical event for Latino talents, directors, writers and producers, who haven’t been discovered yet. It is the first time we offer a showcase without having a distribution screen,” she said.
Meléndez added that around 500 executives attended each event, and they were very surprised with the quality level of the projects. The companies that were invited included: ABC, CBS, FOX, Vh1, Tyler Perry Production, FUSE, A&E, Endemol Shine and Electus.
In sitcoms they presented Hail Mary! (directed by Paul Rodríguez) and My Mother Married a Green-go!; in dramas, Life Coach, Velvet Underground and Dark Prophet; in talk shows The Kiki Show and #BuzzChat; in reality shows Million Dollar Sketch Off, The Real Miami Vice and Banquet Hall Drama; in comedy specials, Hot Tamales Live and The Fried Bananas; and in animations, TipiTom.
The number of episodes each project will have hasn´t been defined yet, but it will be around 22 traditional episodes per season. The duration varies, but in general, sitcoms are half an hour long and dramas one hour.
Meléndez, executive producer of the programs, stated that 5 of the projects were requested in Los Angeles and the remaining 5 in New York. She highlighted that the sitcoms and talk shows were favorites in New York, whereas in Los Angeles, they preferred the reality shows.
Lino García, former ESPN Deportes, advised Meléndez in the event.
