Writer Juan Camillo Ferrand: La Bella y Las Bestias is a very dynamic series

According to Juan Camilo Ferrand, writer of La Bella y Las Bestias (80×60’) from W Studios, that debuts on Wednesday, June 12 on Univision, the story, more than a tale of revenge, stemmed from the assumption of what a person is capable of doing if the institutions that are supposed to help her, turn their backs on her.

“It is the story of a woman who is a victim of white-collar criminals and when she seeks the help of institutions and the State, they turn their backs on her. She does what many people do when they feel unprotected: take justice into their own hands. This is how La Bella y Las Bestias is born,” explains Ferrand.

He highlights that the story is set in three key contexts: female empowerment at all levels, facts of real life to create fiction (as in the white slave trade in Mexico, corruption that exists in delegations, public lynching, disappearance and murder of foreign models in Mexico), and the fact that people do not follow a predestined path established by their parents or their past. “The paradox is that the star a woman, daughter of a federal policeman, ends up being a murderer, and the male star, son of a criminal, ends up being a police,” he adds.

Another differentiating element in the story is that every 10 episodes more or less, there is a main antagonist who represents one of the ‘beasts’. “Every 10 blocks, I have a main antagonist, which implies renewal of casts, locations, topics. This makes it a very dynamic series.”

Ferrand highlights that this is the first of his stories that has Univision as the first screen. “The fact that they bet on putting it on the first screen, as a global launch, is a vote of confidence and a commitment with their audience to invest in innovative stories that drift apart from the classic melodrama from a few years ago,” he mentioned.
