LA Screenings Independents: Names and Certainties

4 de abril de 2025

The LA Screenings Independents 2025 will be held for the first time this year at the Roosevelt Hotel in the heart of Hollywood

The LA Screenings Independents 2025, held for the first time this year at the Roosevelt Hotel in the heart of Hollywood, just meters from the Chinese Theatre, are already attracting exhibitors and attending buyers. The pace of reservations remains steady, and attendance expectations are expected to be met before the event begins. To access special conditions, registration must be completed through the Events TM website, the event organizer.

CONFIRMED EXHIBITORS

Isabella Márquez of Events TM highlighted that while many agreements have been finalized, some payments are still pending, so it’s best to wait before announcing specific names. However, it has been confirmed that major studios will adopt the new hotel for Latin America, with some setting up suites during the major screenings week and others, like Disney, even during the independent days.

Paramount, Sony, WBD, Lionsgate, Amazon MGM, and likely NBCUniversal will be present at the Roosevelt. Additionally, several confirmed distributors include InterMedya, Globo, Telefilms, MADD, Rede Record, Dorimedia, CDC, Cineflix, Beta Film, Ledafilms, ZeeTV, and more.

BUYERS

Buyer confirmations usually come later, but Prensario has directly confirmed that many are interested in the convenience of staying closer to the screenings and spending the entire week at the same hotel, unlike at the Fairmont, where they had to move mid-week.

Confirmed buyers include representatives from TelevisaUnivision, TV Azteca, NBCUniversal Telemundo, Globo, Caracol, Paramount Sur, WBD, Amazon Prime, Disney, Channels 4, 10, and 12 from Uruguay, Unitel and Red Uno from Bolivia, TVN Panama, TCS El Salvador, Channel 11 Honduras, Ecuavisa, Teleamazonas, TC TV Ecuador, TVN, Channel 13, and Mega from Chile, among many others attending the independent days.

EVENTS DURING INDEPENDENT DAYS

Events TM is in talks to organize two brunches, one with a Turkish distributor and another with a major Latin American player. Additionally, Prensario and PRODU have agreed to host two panels on Friday, May 16, featuring top buyers to attract others to the independent sessions. More details will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Telefilms will host its traditional screenings and cocktail event on Saturday, May 17, at 6:30pm at the Roosevelt.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

This year, the focus has been on reducing costs for attendees, as the traditional Fairmont Century Plaza had become too expensive. With the new hotel:

-Room prices are nearly half: US$239 + tax per night, compared to US$400+ at the Century Plaza.
-Lower transportation, parking, and meal costs, as the Hollywood center is closer to the major studios hosting the screenings and offers plenty of service options nearby.

The independent days will mainly occur on Thursday, May 15, and Friday, May 16, though some exhibitors will also be present on Saturday, May 17, when the major screenings begin with Paramount. This significantly cuts costs, as in previous years, indie days started as early as Wednesday or even Tuesday.

The goal is to streamline and optimize movement while fostering industry-wide support for the event, recognizing its significant contribution to the evolution of the content market in Latin America.
