Former Sony Executive David Barraza Already Has Two Projects in Sight: The Drama-Thriller Oscura Danza and the Adaptation of Eloy Urroz’s Novel Demencia

David Barraza, who since 2019 had served as Executive Director of Development and Content for Sony Pictures Entertainment Latin America, based in Mexico—where he was responsible for series such as De Brutas Nada, Reputación Dudosa, Playa Soledad, Ligeramente Diva, Sangre Llama Sangre, Casados con Hijos, Rosario Tijeras, and Enloqueciendo Contigo—has just concluded his time at Sony. Barraza originally joined the company during Ana Bond’s tenure.
“Now comes a time full of opportunities and options, and it’s very important for me to take a short break. I worked on eight series for Sony over six intense years, without pause,” Barraza told PRODU.
He shared that he already has two projects in the works. One is the film Oscura Danza, which he co-wrote with Spaniard Luis Goyanes. It’s a drama-thriller set in the Amazon that was shelved during the pandemic and has now been acquired by a major platform. In addition to co-writing, Goyanes and Barraza are also serving as creative producers. The project is currently in the final phase of development.
The second project is the adaptation of one of the most iconic novels by Mexican author Eloy Urroz, titled Demencia. This project is a partnership with Mojo Global Arts in Los Angeles , the agency that represents Urroz. Luis Goyanes is handling the adaptation of what Barraza calls “a nocturnal novel of Mexico City.” “I’m thrilled to be able to adapt this novel, truly thrilled,” he added.
Barraza is a founding partner of the writers’ company Entrelineas Producciones. In television, he also created and developed two seasons of Infidel for FOX Latin America; was head writer for the series Guardia García, which premiered in November 2018 on Canal Once and is now available on Amazon Prime; and was head writer for the series Ninis, developed for Three Media Entertainment and which premiered in 2022 on HBO Max.
