At the last MIPCOM, Max Montoya and Antônio Caio Scaramuzza of BIG Media presented PRODU with the company’s latest productions and acquisitions, including new seasons of its most successful franchises, high-impact documentaries, and the addition of digital creators to its international portfolio.

Destruction Decoded is one of the most successful franchises in the history of BIG Media. It has been sold in more than 25 countries and is a proven ratings success,” said Montoya, Head of Marketing, who also highlighted that the third season will arrive Q1 2026 with six new episodes and co-production partners such as France’s RMC Story, Germany’s NTV, and Australia’s WildBear Entertainment attached. “Every year it continues to grow; it’s a franchise that never stops expanding,” he added.

At the same time, the company presented the third season of Truthseekers, one of its most recognized titles worldwide. “Following the success of the first two seasons, BIG Media and RMC decided to invest even more into Truthseekers Season 3—elevating the production with new, original dramatic re-creations and an expanded creative approach,” Montoya explained.

Among the new releases is COLE: Al-Qaeda’s Strike Before 9/11, a three-part series that explores the attack on the USS Cole in the port of Aden (Yemen) in 2000. The attack, perpetrated by Al-Qaeda, is considered a clear precursor to the attacks of September 11, 2001.

“The documentary shows how this event was a huge warning and a warning sign of what was to come,” explained the marketing leader. The premiere took place with a live screening in Washington, D.C., at the US Navy Memorial, with the presence of the ship’s commander and senior intelligence officers featured in the series. The three-part series was produced for The Daily Wire (US), TF1 (France), NTV (Germany), and AMC (Spain).

NEW ACQUISITIONS AND BUSINESS MODELS

For his part, Antonio Scaramuzza, VP of Sales and Development for LatAm, highlighted the work of BIG Media’s international acquisitions department, which continues to expand its catalog with third-party productions.

One of the most recent is Crime Exposé with Nancy O’Dell, a 120-episode, 30-minute true crime series hosted by the Emmy-winning journalist. “It premiered in the U.S. in late September 2024, and we are now its exclusive international distributor,” he explained.

The series already has deals with digital platforms such as Tubi, Roku, Pluto, and Future Today, with a second season already in the works. Scaramuzza also highlighted an innovative approach: connecting unique YouTube creators with traditional broadcasters and streamers, a model that leverages the pre-existing audiences of these digital talents.

“Our new acquisition, Ride Along with Tommy G (13×30’), follows boots-on-the-ground journalist Tommy G as he embeds with both law enforcement and the criminal underworld—offering an unfiltered look at life on both sides of the law through immersive ride-alongs with Memphis SWAT, East Chicago PD, the U.S. Border Patrol, and Florida’s wildest sheriff, among others. With more than 2.9 million YouTube subscribers, Tommy brings built-in audience appeal and outstanding pre-marketability,” he explained.

Ride Along with Tommy G represents the trend of creator-led content,” added Montoya. “We helped structure it for traditional television and are selling its rights to broadcasters in the U.S., Latin America, and Europe.”

LATIN AMERICA IN THE SPOTLIGHT

When asked about titles that might resonate with Latin American audiences, Scaramuzza mentioned two notable productions. The first is Hashtag Homicide, an eight-episode series that explores real murders where social media served as the breeding ground for the crime or the key to its resolution.”

“The key differentiator is that the series doesn’t end on a dark note; instead, it spotlights the efforts of victims’ families and local authorities working to prevent similar crimes from happening.”

“The second title, Scanning History (6×60’), is a co-production with TF1, ZDF Studios, Prima TV (Czech Republic), and other European partners. The series reveals how today’s most remarkable archaeological discoveries are being made in laboratories through cutting-edge technologies that are redefining our understanding of ancient civilizations.

“My favorite episode focuses on Baiae—the ‘Las Vegas of Ancient Rome’—now entirely submerged beneath the Gulf of Naples. We follow archaeologists as they use multi-beam scanners to reconstruct the city’s urban landscape, allowing viewers to witness Baiae’s former grandeur,” concluded Scaramuzza.
