Following the success of Sandro: El Gran Show, which revitalized biographical musical theater in the region, production companies 3C Films and UPM Productions are doubling down with two high-impact international projects. On one hand, they are developing an ambitious musical stage show about Rocío Dúrcal, supported institutionally by Sony Music Mexico. On the other, they are moving forward with their first feature film coproduction shot in the U.S.: My Life Without Alma, a horror film set to begin filming in 2026.
3C Films is also planning three additional projects currently in development, slated to enter production during the second half of 2026, solidifying its international expansion plan.
Producers Luciano Foppoli, Juan Crespo, and José Luis “Pepe” Pagán told PRODU that the idea emerged almost organically. After the success of Sandro: El Gran Show, they began exploring new figures who could attract both Latin American audiences and the international market, and the answer appeared almost immediately: Rocío Dúrcal, one of the most beloved voices in the Spanish-speaking world and an eternal icon of the ranchera repertoire.
“Rocío is a huge star in Mexico, and that forces you to give your very best,” the producers said in describing the scope of the challenge.
The project, developed by 3C Films and UPM Productions with institutional support from Sony Music Mexico, seeks to create a world-class theatrical production that revisits the life and work of the artist who sold more than 40 million albums, starred in iconic films, and was immortalized through her historic collaborations with Juan Gabriel.
The musical will be led by Juan Crespo and Luciano Foppoli for 3C Films, known for their work in theatrical and audiovisual content across Latin America; José Luis Pagán for UPM Productions, a composer and producer with a distinguished international career; and Roberto López, president of Sony Music Mexico, and Sergi Reitg, VP of Sony Music Vision, who bring strategic and global insight to the project.
The show, currently in the creative phase, is scheduled to premiere in Mexico City in the second half of 2027.
According to the company, 2025 was “a very positive year” both in sales and production. That momentum has enabled an ambitious expansion plan for 2026, including new partnerships, coproductions, and entry into strategic markets.
Unlike the theatrical project, My Life Without Alma is a purely cinematic production coproduced with Del Toro Films (Argentina), One Movie One Film (U.S.), and 4Cento Films (U.S.). It will be the company’s first feature film shot in the U.S. and produced in English.
The film will be directed by Néstor Sánchez Sotelo, an Argentine filmmaker with five films to his name, including Don’t Come Back Alive — available on Amazon and Apple TV in the U.S. and winner of international awards — and Caída del Cielo, currently available on HBO Max.
Filming will begin on February 2, 2026, in the Florida Everglades and suburban areas of Miami.
The story follows Alma, a wheelchair-bound girl who dies alone after being abandoned by her addicted mother, Rose. Her spirit continues to inhabit the house, waiting for her return.
In prison, Rose finds a path to redemption through an evangelical pastor named Jorge, and upon her release she joins his ministry. However, financial need forces her to attempt to sell the house where her daughter died, triggering a return fraught with guilt, visions, and a presence unwilling to let her go a second time.
