
Radio Mambí has played a central role in Miami’s public discourse and within the Cuban diaspora.
Radio Mambí (WAQI 710 AM), one of South Florida’s most iconic Spanish-language radio stations, ended its live news and opinion programming on December, closing a historic chapter after more than four decades on the air.
“For four decades, Radio Mambí has been a gathering place for South Florida and for all those committed to the ideal of a free Cuba,” said Mike Sena, General Manager of Radio Mambí. “Our microphones welcomed presidents, governors, mayors, dissidents and political prisoners, cultural icons, and community voices. We stood with Miami through hurricanes and historic moments. We are proud of this legacy and deeply grateful to the colleagues, listeners, and advertisers who made it possible.”
Frequently a market leader in Spanish-language talk radio, Radio Mambí has played a central role in Miami’s public discourse and within the Cuban diaspora. However, like many Spanish-language media organizations in South Florida, the station is navigating the challenges of a rapidly evolving media and demographic landscape, which has significantly reshaped how audiences consume news and how media outlets sustain themselves financially.
Beginning on the announced date, Radio Mambí will discontinue live news and opinion programming. In the near future, the station will transition to music and archived programming, while continuing to serve as the Spanish-language home for broadcasts of the Miami Heat and the Miami Marlins.
As part of this transition, all live programming staff will depart. The station will maintain a minimal operational team — including a sales representative and a board operator — to fulfill ongoing commitments to current advertisers and sports broadcast partners.
This announcement follows a broader wave of transformation within Miami’s Spanish-language media ecosystem, including recent changes at América TeVé and Mega TV, reflecting a profound shift in how the Hispanic community in South Florida accesses information, engages with media, and connects with its cultural roots.
