The moving series is grounded in first-account stories from HIV-positive people of color and their loved ones

LatiNation Media’s critically acclaimed series, Living y Ready, was the recipient of a GLAAD Media Award in the category of Outstanding Online Journalism – Video or Multimedia // Periodismo digital sobresaliente: vídeo o multimedia.  The moving series is grounded in first-account stories from HIV-positive people of color and their loved ones. The special provides an unprecedented look into the HIV-positive community and its many nuances.

Living y Ready is an eight episode series that aired in 2025 on LatiNation’s LATV broadcast network, and is streaming on the LatiNation app. Watch here. The episode ¿Tienes HIV, Mijo? A Mother’s Journey earned the award.

The episode was Executive Produced by LatiNation Media’s Andres Palencia (Executive Producer/Creator), Bruno Ulloa, Aura Quiroz, and Natalia Trejos,  with Andrew Tamarkin and Alexandra Lemus serving as Producers, and Tamarkin as Director.

Andres Palencia, CEO, LatiNation Media, and Executive Producer/Creator of Living y Ready, said, “When I first created the series with the help of Gilead, I couldn’t have predicted it would grow into what it is now. HIV has been framed as a tragedy for decades. Through this series, we meet Martha, the mother. We meet Iván, the son. A mother and son who chose each other, not the disease, and a familia that leaned in instead of pulling away. That’s the story Andrew Tamarkin and Natalia Trejos brought to life.”

Living y Ready: ¿Tienes HIV, Mijo? tells the story of Iván Ramirez, a gay man living with HIV, and his mother, Martha, a devout woman from Aguascalientes, MX. When Iván shared his status, their world shifted. Sadness, faith, fear, and love collided — forcing both to confront deeply held beliefs and cultural expectations. At a time when misinformation and silence still surround HIV, this episode breaks through with honesty, compassion, and dignity — replacing fear with empathy and shame with humanity. The special is in Spanish and English.
