Albuquerque brings more than 30 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry
The Walt Disney Company Latin America announced today the appointment of Mónica Albuquerque as Head of Original Content for Disney+ Brazil. In this role, she will report to Daniel Burman, Head of Original Content for Disney+ Latin America, and will lead the creative strategy and development of original productions in Brazil for Disney.
This appointment reinforces Disney’s ongoing commitment to investing in local original productions that complement its global portfolio, as well as strengthening its presence in one of the region’s most dynamic and strategic markets.
“Mónica is one of the most respected creative executives in the industry, with an exceptional track record in developing high-quality content with strong cultural resonance. Her deep understanding of the Brazilian market, combined with her regional perspective and passion for storytelling, uniquely positions her to drive our original content strategy in Brazil and continue strengthening our connection with audiences. She also brings a unique sensitivity in her approach to talent, with an instinctive ability to understand, interpret, and elevate creative voices in a way that enhances both the content and the people behind it,” said Burman.
“Disney has always been a place where imagination and discovery come together, so joining the company feels like a return to my own love of storytelling. After a formative period creating content for the U.S. Hispanic market—which expanded my repertoire and strengthened my cultural perspective—I return to Brazil with a renewed sense of purpose, a fresh outlook, and a strong belief in the power of our stories to connect with audiences around the world. Coming home as part of Disney is both an honor and a deeply meaningful professional milestone,” Albuquerque said.
Albuquerque brings more than 30 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry and is widely recognized for her expertise in scripted and unscripted content, development, casting, talent management, and marketing for Portuguese- and Spanish-language programming. She joins Disney from NBCUniversal Telemundo Studios, where she served as Senior Vice President of Content Development, leading content strategy and working across teams to deliver compelling programming for both linear and streaming platforms. Previously, she was Head of Scripted Content at Warner Bros. Discovery Latin America, where she oversaw original productions for HBO Max and pay TV, including culturally impactful and high-performing titles such as Cidade de Deus: 20 Years Later, Beleza Fatal, Como Agua para Chocolate, Chespirito, and Dona Beja.
Earlier in her career, Albuquerque spent more than two decades at TV Globo, where she held various leadership roles and contributed to the company’s creative strategy, talent development, and international expansion. Throughout her career, she has received global recognition for her impact on the industry, including being named to Variety’s “50 Most Influential Women in International Entertainment” list and being honored as Woman of the Year 2025 by the Worldwide Audiovisual Women’s Association. She is also a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and serves as a juror for the International Emmy Awards, the New York Film Festival, Rose d’Or Latino, Premios PRODU, and the Rockie Awards.
Her appointment marks a significant step in Disney’s ongoing strategy to expand its original production capabilities in Brazil and across Latin America, further strengthening its connection with local audiences.
