To strengthen its commitment with local production in the region, Amazon Prime Video appointed Mexican film and TV producer Leonardo Zimbrón to the newly created position of Head of Film for Spanish-Speaking for Latin America.

Zimbrón recently arrived in Miami where he will assume this new position beginning this month of January. From Miami, he will report to Javiera Balmaceda, head of local originals for Latin America at Amazon Studios, Variety reported.

Previously, Amazon reported its plans to spend US$300 million on local production in Mexico alone over the next three years.

Zimbrón recently retired from Endemol Shine Boomdog, where he led the company’s TV script unit for three years.

Among his successes is the 2013 comedy We Are the Nobles, Gary Alazraki’s first feature film that became the second-highest box-office earner Mexican film in history, as well as the first Netflix original production in Mexico, Club de Cuervos. For Prime Video he developed Súbete a mi Moto with Endemol Shine Boomdog, SOMOS, and Piñolywood, as well as Todo Por Lucy, a modern and reimagined version of the comedy series I Love Lucy, where he is an executive producer.

Between 2004 to 2010 he directed the local production operations of Warner Bros. studio in Mexico, producing several successful films such as Efectos Secundarios by Issa López, Bajo la Sal, directed by Mario Muñoz, No Eres Tú, Soy Yo and Viento en Contra.

In 2000, he founded his own production company, Traziende Films, where he developed successful productions such as My boyfriend’s Meds, by Diego Kaplan; Todo Mal, by Issa López, and Más Sabe el Diablo por Viejo, by José Bojórquez.

He has a long trajectory and experience in the industry in Mexico. He was president of Canacie (National Chamber of the Cinematographic Industry of Mexico) and president of the association of television producers, PIMA.
