RCN Colombia, a leading provider of captivating telenovelas, breaking news, major sporting events, and diverse entertainment with a broad audience across the Latin American region, has seen a significant increase in demand in the U.S. as interest in Spanish-language content grows.
By utilizing Zixi-as-a-Service (ZaaS), RCN has seamlessly transitioned to a cost-effective cloud infrastructure while maintaining the reliability traditionally associated with satellite delivery. At the core of this transformation is Zixi Broadcaster, which serves as a bridge for content from local sources to the cloud. Within the cloud environment, Zixi’s Software-Defined Video Platform (SDVP) efficiently processes and distributes content to affiliates, all managed by ZEN Master, the cloud control plane that ensures operational efficiency and end-to-end visibility.
Over 1,000 media companies rely on Zixi’s enabled network, supported by more than 400 technology partners, allowing content owners like RCN to easily expand their audience reach. The widespread adoption of Zixi by major U.S. operators, including Charter, Dish, and Verizon, enabled RCN to transition from traditional workflows to IP-based distribution without the need for new developments or concerns from partners. With the switch to IP distribution enabled by Zixi’s SDVP, the new system not only accelerates the onboarding of new affiliates but also enhances operational agility and reduces costs. By replacing cumbersome satellite farms with optimized local servers and leveraging Zixi’s extensive enabled network, RCN can deliver its content to new markets and explore additional revenue streams without the burden of significant initial infrastructure costs.
